We Need Your Input: Baby’s First Year Book
*Not final covers. Artwork in progress.
Forgive my absence from the blog this month. I feel like I haven’t written anything new in a long time. This is because a) my children do not start mother’s day out until after Labor Day and b) I have a manuscript due in 2 weeks. So if I’m writing at all (and I’m not nearly as much as I need to be what with two small people literally fighting over my attention every minute of every day), I’m writing the book.
Excuses. . .excuses. . .
Your prayers are appreciated as Dr. Johnston, Dr. Rupe and I complete The Baby Companion manuscript this month. We want every word to be completely inspired by God and full of grace and peace for new moms. It’s a large task, one that overwhelms me every time I sit down to type. But I know he will be faithful to speak and to share his heart for mothers walking through baby’s first year.
We’ve enjoyed the great discussion going on over at The Pregnancy Companion Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who has shared their opinions and stories with us. If you haven’t joined in the conversation, please do. I’m sure I’ll be asking many more questions in the next few weeks.
If there is a topic or issue that you believe is of utmost importance for us to address for new moms, please leave a comment sharing your insight. All three of us authors are moms and two are doctors (one of these things is not like the other. . .and it’s me!) but our experience only goes so far. The perspective of moms in the trenches is so valuable for baby’s first year.
Thank you for making this community so incredible. Dr. Rupe and I absolutely love being a part of this group of moms. And I know Dr. Johnston is going to fit right on in.
Once again. . .what issues do you think MUST be addressed in a book about baby’s first year? Also, we’d love your input on these two covers. Which one would YOU pick up? Remember, this book is a follow up to The Pregnancy Companion {cover to your upper right –>}.

I like the one with the orange diaper cover. The first one looks really generic and wouldn’t grab my attention.
I like the one with the orange diaper!
The one with the bum. : )
I like the one with the bum in the air too. And I think it also me be more just because of the color of the cover rather than I prefer the bum over feet

Orange diaper. Definitely.
I also like the orange bum.
As for topics, I’m sure this is in there, but I would love to see a faith and medicine combined section on sleep safety. I’ve been researching cribs vs. co-sleeping for various reasons, and also information about how to keep a baby warm at night (baby is due in January and we live in Japan without central heating). I am really struggling to find good information that feels reliable without being inundated with the message, “There are approximately 30 different possible factors that can prevent SIDS–some of which are contradictory–and you had better get them all straight and never break a rule. If you do break a rule and your baby dies…well, we all know whose fault that was, right?” I know there’s a better way to think about it, but it’s hard to make decisions surrounded by that kind of thinking.
I’m really excited you guys are writing another book! I wish it were going to be out before my baby.
I like second one mostly because the first photos is a little less clear. I like the little limbs, but they are a bit jumbled. The second is more eye catching, though I’ll be buying it either way!

The orange diapered covered bum in the air is my pick! The colors go so well with the lime green shoes in The Pregnancy Companion! They will look great next to each other on my shelf!
(well, technically The Pregnancy Companion is never on my shelf since I’m still carrying it with me everywhere I go!)

The second one–more original and eye-catching as well as subliminally speaking the underlying message that it all moves/goes by so quickly!
Second one is great for the cover! Not only because I took the picture!
