10 Tips for Traveling with a Toddler

Please excuse my absence from the blog these past few weeks. I spent my Christmas vacation on a 10 day, 1600 mile road trip, visiting 4 states. Yes friends, my family decided to reenact not just the original National Lampoons Vacation but the Christmas Vacation as well. Besides the blizzard we drove through, the 2 hours we got stuck in traffic on I-40 and the screaming 3 year old, it really was a lovely holiday.
During the very long drive home I realized this was the 6th major (at least 500 miles) road trip for the Rupes in 2012. As a result of this lovely driving experience my only New Years Resolution for 2013 is : NO Road Trips.
Based on my plethora of road trip experiences this year, I came up with a handy list of helpful hints for traveling with toddlers:
10. Don’t do it.
9. Don’t do it.
8. Don’t do it.
7. Don’t do it.
6. Don’t do it.
5. Bring gallons of Goldfish
4. Don’t forget the ear plugs
3. An iPad is a must
2. Benadryl is often a good idea
1. Xanax works too (for mommy and daddy – but not if you are driving)
Happy New Year to you all! I will be back soon with more pregnancy tips, but for now, I have to go vacuum out my SUV yet again.

My friend, you are hilarious. I’m rethinking our Disney trip at the end of the month. 12 hours each way in the car with a toddler. Oh Lordy. There will be media-related distraction and there might be Benadryl. We’ll see. Glad you made it home in one piece!
We have already learned the gallons of goldfish tip and Otto just turned 16 months. He goes mental for them!! Next investment must be an iPad!!!
Yes, 2013 is going to be the year of staying home.
